I am a tried and true Steeler fan but I think that may change. Does it make sense to punish someone who is guilty of nothing more than poor judgment? In my opinion the Rooneys are really nothing more than holier than thou jerk offs, not some moral authority as so many seem to believe.
As most are aware the franchise fee for the Pirates football club (which became the Steelers) was paid with gambling money.
Was it a crime? NO
Is it something many people find morally wrong? Of course
{I have no problem with a little gambling myself I’m happy to drive right past the meadows on my way to the much more superior Wheeling Island once in a while. The Meadows and The Rivers something else western PA screwed up, imagine that, but I’ll save that for another post.}
When did the Steelers become some prestigious untarnished group of boy scouts?
Does the name Ernie Holmes ring a bell?
Granted the dude had mental problems but a cop was wounded during his shooting spree, plus the cocaine charges and I don’t even know what else. I don’t believe this stopped him from being part of the steel curtain did it? I’m not dogging on Ernie God rest his soul. I’m just pointing out the massive amounts of hypocrisy that flows through the veins of the “wonderful” Rooneys and the average Steeler fan.
How about the fact that Dan Rooney approves the beating of women as long as it is for the right reason or is worth it?
James Harrison anyone.
How about using a property such as the Steelers that is essentially tax payer funded (Pittsburgh paid a lot for Heinz Field) to further a political career?
It does not matter which candidate he supported. Using the team was wrong.
About Ben
I have to say IF HE IS A RAPIST THROW HIM IN JAIL. Big if considering the evidence and the DA's decision.
Was Ben ever charged with a crime for these alleged incidents? That answer is pretty simple. Granted the dude must pull head from posterior, but I hardly think that warrants any kind of trade or suspension. I really think he is guilty of being an ass. If that becomes suspension worthy who would be left to play?
For a moment consider this: Let’s say I was to falsely accuse my local bank manager of some unscrupulous illegal act in his free time. For whatever reason, let’s say extortion. Now the police investigate and find no wrongdoing. Would it be proper for him to lose his job?
One more important thing I'd like to point out. These people who somehow consider athletes role models must also remove head from posterior. Blaming children’s misbehavior on the actions of athletes is simply a copout for lazy parents who don't care enough to set good examples for their own children.
I realize Art Rooney II is the man now, believe me I saw the press conference, the “breaking news” that amounted to him saying absolutely nothing. It is unbelievable how Pittsburgh hangs on the Rooneys every word even when they have nothing to say.
If you do not believe any of these things that I have pointed out here remember Google is your friend references to all of these things are easy to find. I would post links but that’s really not my problem.
I would like to say I do not have a problem with the Rooneys per se. I think the Chief was a pretty cool dude. I have a problem with these people who place themselves on some kind of B.S. pedestal solely to judge others when they themselves have not exactly been class acts.
So I say, be stupid go for it Trade Ben Roethlisberger. Hopefully he will go to a team that keeps us out of the playoffs for years to come. Hey maybe we can even become the NFL’s “lovable losers” again. At least we can pretend that our franchise is morally above any other team in the league.
